The Waterford Shopping Centre in Lisduggan has been running a Mother’s Day Make-over and model competition for the past few weeks and the winners have been chosen. The competition was run through their facebook page and WLR fm. The prize includes a consultation with a personal shopper where the winners learn about the styles and colours that suit their shape and skin tones. It also includes a chance for them to be a model for a day having their hair and make-up done and taking part in two fashion shows on Saturday 5th March at Lisduggan Shopping Centre.

The first two winners were chosen from the Waterford Shopping Centre facebook page and include Joan Kearns who was nominated by her daughter Bridget and Betty Nolan who was nominated by her son. Personal stylist Margaret Doyle met with the ladies this week and took them on a shopping trip to remember around the Lisduggan shopping centre. Theclothes for the fashion event have been chosen from Heitons, Tesco, Lifestyle, Slic Chic, Phelan’s Shoes and the SVP shop.

Betty Nolan

Betty Nolan comments “I was so shocked to have won the competition especially since I didn’t realise my son had even entered me. It took a while to sink in! It was a wonderful experience to be told exactly what clothes suit my body shape. I tried on lots of things I would never dream would look good but I was pleasantly surprised to see how the right clothes could really transform my skin tone and silhouette.”

Joan Kearns, a native of Kill Co. Waterford was also blown away to have won the prize. Her daughter Bridget nominated her because Joan always puts everyone else first, looking after her three children and grandchildren. She wanted to give her mother a special thoughtful Mother’s Day gift.

Joan comments “I really enjoyed the day shopping with Margaret, the personal stylist. It is so great to know what suits me. I am looking forward to the pampering at the fashion show event but a bit nervous too. At least I will have all the local support at Waterford Shopping Centre to cheer me on.”

The shopping centre ran a competition with WLRfm last week to choose the final two winner for the make over and model competition. Freda Hearne, the third winner, is from Lismore Lawn, only around the corner from the shopping centre!

Freda and Ella Hearne

Freda is married to Mick and has two children. Her daughter Ella only aged 5 nominated her via her husband. Ella LOVES fashion and is in the WIT kids youth musical and stage group and is so excited to think she’ll be modelling with her mum next week.

Last but not least to take part in the fashion event will be Mags Bolger. Mags is a native of Kilmeaden and works as an oncology nurse in UHW.

She was nominated by her son Gearoid who's 8. Mags lost her dad not too long ago and said she had been having a particularly bad day when Gearoid asked her if he could call WLR and nominate her. She was blown away and decided she could do with a bit of treat so she allowed him. Mags and Gearoid will be hitting the catwalk with the other six winners on March 5th.

The fashion event has generated great anticipation in Waterford Shopping Centre Lisduggan with local shoppers excited to see what styles are on offer. There will be lots of other activity too on the day with various shops from the centre running one day only promotion as well as some fantastic prizes for lucky shoppers. WLR will be broadcasting on the day so be sure to come down to Lisduggan and give the local models your support. The shopping centre would like to thank all of their customers for their continued support and to wish all the mothers out there a Happy Mother’s Day.
